SEOUL: A North Korean defectors' group announced on Thursday that it had flown 20 large balloons delivering propaganda leaflets to Pyongyang across the country's western border, including those announcing Yoon Suk-election yeol's as South Korea's next President.

The  Fighters for Free North Korea (FFNK)  reportedly sent over 1 million anti-Pyongyang leaflets to North Korea during their latest leaflet campaign in Gimpo, west of Seoul, on Monday and Tuesday. Some of the pamphlets contained information on Yoon's election as well as photographs of him. "A great nation where a prosecutor has become a national leader," one of the leaflets stated.

Last year, the South Korean government revised the Development of Inter-Korean Relations Act, making it illegal to transmit propaganda leaflets across the border, with violators facing up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of 30 million won (USD23,700).

Park Sang-hak, the leader of the defectors' group, is accused of firing anti-North Korean leaflets and USD 1 notes across the Demilitarized Zone in Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces on two separate occasions in April last year. Prior to the amendment of the law, the FFNK had frequently carried out such balloon campaigns in the hopes of providing news and information from the outside to the people of North Korea.
