The Digital Communications Commission (DCC) held a meeting on Friday, but the most important issue in this meeting is not to discuss the financial condition of the telecom companies, nor has any decision been taken to give relief to the telecom companies going through the economic crisis. For your information, let us know that Vodafone Idea and Airtel are expecting mercy from the government regarding the Adjustable Gross Revenue (AGR) dues. Vodafone has even said that if the government does not get help on AGR then it may have to stop its services.

According to the report, the DCC meeting was postponed for about two hours, but no decision has been taken regarding relief from AGR. With this, relief is now expected from the next meeting of the commission. The meeting was attended by the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog and senior officers of the Department of Telecommunications, including Secretaries of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

For your information, let us tell you that DCC Commission is the highest decision making body in the telecom sector. On the other hand, Vodafone-Idea has demanded a minimum rate of Rs 35 per GB for mobile data. This is about seven-eight times the current rate. The company has also demanded a rate of six paise per minute for call services with a fixed monthly fee.
