Mumbai: The havoc of the second wave of corona in the country was slowly receding but now it is getting to see the lead again. The third wave is feared and all precautions are being taken in view of this. You must be aware that schools have been opened in many states amidst the apprehension of a third wave and there are many States where schools are being prepared to be opened. The same list includes the Maharashtra government, though they have postponed their decision to open schools in urban areas of the state for the time being.

This was recently announced by state education minister Varsha Gaikwad. She said, "New SOP and school reopening guidelines will be discussed.'' At the same time, she added, "The expert panel constituted by the government to advise on reopening of schools has suggested some changes.'' Talking to a famous website, Varsha Gaikwad said, 'We will have another meeting. The proposal will then be sent to the CM. He will take a final decision on it. The decision not to reopen schools comes as the state fears a third projected wave of the corona. It should be noted that Maharashtra has been one of the worst affected states during the first and second waves of COVID-19.'

On the other hand, the Maharashtra COVID-19 Task Force on Children insisted on priority completion of immunization of teachers and non-teaching staff before taking any decision on reopening of schools. Dr. Bakul Parekh, a senior pediatrician from Mumbai and a member of the task force, recently said, "Teachers and non-teaching staff in schools should be vaccinated first. It will enhance their immunity and make schools safer for children.''
