Kolkata: Political parties have started preparing strategies for the assembly elections to be held in West Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Bangaon on the very last day. During this, Mamata talked about the Matua community. About a month ago, Home Minister Amit Shah also met the people of Matua community. In view of the elections, these days the battle of TMC and BJP is intensifying.
Yesterday, referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act, Mamata Banerjee said, 'All Matua are citizens of this country, you do not need any certificate. CAA, NRC or NPR will not apply in our state. BJP wants Bengal to be Gujarat, which we will not allow.' Matua society has been demanding for a long time that they want permanent citizenship. They are still counted in the SC cast, Matua society is those who settled in Bengal from the time Bangladesh was formed. They have predominantly settled in North and South 24 Parganas in Bengal and have the second-largest SC caste population in the state.
BJP has been eyeing Matua society for a long time, PM Modi started his campaign in Lok Sabha elections from this area. After that, Amit Shah also reached the temple of Matua society last month and met the people at home. After the BJP, TMC is also seen leaning towards this. Recently, it has been announced by Mamata, 'From 2021, there will be a government holiday every year on the birth anniversary of Harichand Thakur. Some schemes will be launched in his name.'
