Chennai: The Madras High Court has said that public money cannot be misused to print photos for the personal benefit of any politician. Especially on textbooks, bags, and other educational materials. The court said the state government should ensure that such traditions do not continue in the future.

The first bench of the same Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice PD Odikeswalu made the remarks on a PIL filed by Oveyam Ranjan. The petitioner sought an order from the state government to use unused stock of textbooks and other stationery materials such as crayons, colored pencils, and school bags containing photos of former chief ministers of the state.

The same court said that they can be used till the remaining stock is exhausted so that the money already spent is not destroyed. The court said it has also been reported by the state that the CM does not want his photos to be published in such material in the future. There is no need to give any further orders to the State Government to ensure that public money is not spent on publicity targets of political leaders including hoardings and other materials.
