Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav has suffered a setback after party's National General Secretary Surendra Nagar resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Surendra Nagar is reported to be joining the BJP. He is expected to join the BJP in the next two to three days. This has not only put the SP on the verge of extinction in Gautambuddh Nagar, but the crisis for the SP in western Uttar Pradesh is deepening.

According to media reports, there are a large number of Jat and Gurjar voters in western Uttar Pradesh. He is said to be accompanied by several other SP leaders from western Uttar Pradesh and Gautambuddh Nagar. There are also a large number of Gujars in these two states.

For your information, Surendra Nagar became Rajya Sabha member from the SP in 2016. He had just three years left. The BJP is said to have been in touch with him for the past 15 days. On Friday, after several meetings with the BJP high command, he dealt a major blow to the SP. However, since the Lok Sabha elections, efforts were being made to join the BJP by Surendra Nagar.
