BANGALORE: Karnataka's political parties are expected to release their candidate lists for the biennial election to the Karnataka Legislative Council on Monday. The deadline for submitting nominees for the seven vacant Council seats is Tuesday. The election is scheduled for June 3rd. The election necessitates since seven members' terms of office are set to expire on June 14.

The ruling BJP and the opposition Congress have failed to reach an agreement on nominees. The Congress's tug-of-war between state President D.K. Shivakumar and Opposition Leader Siddaramaiah have come into the open.
Both parties have sent their own lists of candidates to the high command, according to congressional sources. Meanwhile, the BJP has still to determine whether or not to give a ticket to former Chief Minister B.Y. Vijayendra, as Yediyurappa's bitter adversaries inside the party oppose him, claiming that it supports family politics and creates a new power centre in the state.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's discretion has been left to regional party JD(S) leaders.

The Congress leaders Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah are split on whether or not to give the ticket to former Council opposition leader S.R. Patil. Siddaramaiah claims to be a Lingayat from north Karnataka, which he claims will benefit the party. Shivakumar, on the other hand, is demanding that the chance be offered to any other community leader. Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha member Mallikarjun Kharge is taking part in the debate and is requesting a ticket for his supporter Tippanna Kamakanur.

The elections for the seven vacant seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council will take place on June 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On the same day, the vote-counting procedure will be concluded. The deadline to withdraw nominations is May 27.
