North Korea fully ‘silent’ about apparent missile launch failure

SEOUL: North Korea's state media remained silent on Thursday about the country's latest suspected missile test, despite the fact that the South Korean military said the launch appeared to have failed the day before.

According to Yonhap report, which cited knowledgeable sources, the North shot a missile from the Sunan area of Pyongyang that seemed to burst in mid-flight at a height of less than 20 kilometres. The launch was not reported in the North's closely controlled official media, including the Korean Central News Agency and the Rodong Sinmun newspaper, on Thursday morning.

They normally report on such tests the next morning if they are judged to be effective. The North's latest missile launch coincided with the government of Kim Jong-un announcing plans to create "reconnaissance satellites," which South Korea and the United States believe is a cover for the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles.
