The East Asian country North Korea has slammed the European Union's (EU) condemnation of its recent missile launches, calling it a "unbearable" act of interference in its internal affairs.

According to media sources, Ri Sang-rim who is a head of the North's Korea-Europe Association, took issue with the EU's recent statement criticising its missile launches as a danger to world and regional peace and security in a message posted on the Foreign Ministry's website on Thursday.

"We categorically repudiate and reject this as a flagrant violation of our sovereignty and an outrageous act of meddling in our country's internal affairs," the statement stated.

"Our efforts to improve national defence capabilities pose no threat or harm to neighbouring nations or the region." It went on to say that the world community is increasingly convinced that the United States, as a party directly involved in the Korean peninsula issue, should take concrete actions to break the vicious cycle of heightening tensions.

This year, the North has conducted seven missile tests, hinting at the potential of violating its years-long ban on nuclear and long-range missile testing.
