Imphal: “Northeast is unique in many ways; In terms of culture, in geographical grandeur, in linguistic diversity. And more importantly, the Northeast region also has important Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspots, which have a rich diversity of eco-systems,” said Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. The Vice President was inaugurating the 'Phytopharmaceutical Lab' at the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) at Takilpat in Imphal West on Tuesday.

He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving "top priority" to the development of the North-East region and that is why several Ministers (MoS) from the Center have been visiting the region frequently to monitor the development works and the situation. Naidu also lauded the "really commendable extraordinary work" done by the institute and scientific management of the bio-resources of the Indian region from this biodiversity hot-spot for sustainable development.

“And, by using modern technology, the Department of Biotechnology is promoting the Phytopharmaceutical Mission in the region, promoting the traditional healthcare of the region by virtue of its rich bio-resources,” he said at the inauguration of the Phytopharmaceutical Lab in Manipur. Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with some of his Council of Ministers participated. Upon his arrival at the Imphal airport, the Vice President was received by the Governor of Manipur and CM Singh and proceeded to the Raj Bhavan.
