Norway continued its dominance in the Winter Olympics and got off to a flying start by winning 2 gold medals on the first day of the medal event. Norway, who topped the medal tally at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, was won by cross-country skier Theresy Johoug, the first gold medal of the Beijing Winter Olympics in the women's 15-km skiathlon.  

After which Johannes Thingness Boye defeated the rivals of France and Russia in the final meter of the mixed relay of the Biathlon race to win the gold medal and also took Norway to the top spot in the table. Johannes has 10 World Championships titles but this is the first individual medal of the Olympics.

Irene breaks 20-year-old Olympic record: According to reports, Irene Scouton of the Netherlands has also broken the 20-year-old Olympic record in the women's 3,000m speed skating event and also gave the Netherlands its first gold medal at the Beijing Games. Scruton has taken the top spot in speed skating in the last 10 pairs with a time of 3 minutes 56.93 seconds.  

She has also broken the previous Olympic record of three minutes 57.70 seconds set by Claudia Pechstein of Germany at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. Italy's Francesca Lolobrigaida has won the silver with a time of three minutes 58.06 seconds while Canada's Isabel Weideman (three minutes 58.64 seconds) has won the bronze medal.
