Amritsar: Even after the crushing defeat in the Punjab Assembly elections, the tussle in the state leadership of the Congress continues. On Monday, former Punjab Chief of Congress Navjot Singh Sidhu had staged a protest in Rajpura over several issues including power cuts, but he was seen to be alone. Most of the party members did not turn up for the protest by congress leaders. None of the leaders of the team of sitting MLA and newly elected state president Amarinder Raja Wading reached Sidhu's protest. These leaders said that the protest organised by Navjot Singh Sidhu was not on the orders of the party. In such a situation, he did not think it was appropriate to go there. In this way, even after coming into the opposition, Congress is scattered.
It may be recalled that the protest was organised by former MlaA Hardayal Kamboj of Rajpura, close to Navjot Singh Sidhu. The protest was addressed by Sidhu who sat there for a long time. Apart from him, only a few Congressmen were seen in this protest. In particular, senior leaders kept a distance from this protest, so that they could not be accused of breaking away from the party line. Even the local leaders of Patiala, under which Rajpura falls, distanced themselves from it. The leaders said it was not organised by the party. On Sunday, Pradesh Congress Committee chief Amarinder Raja Wading had already hinted at distancing himself from the protest.
When asked about Sidhu's holding of a protest, Amarinder Raja Wading had said that he has no information in this regard. Mohit Mohindra, who recently lost the election from Patiala, said, "I was not called at all. This protest was not organised by the party. Surjit Singh Dhiman, a former Congress MLA and expelled from the party, certainly joined in. Apart from them, former MLAs Ashwani Shekhar, Navtej Singh Cheema, Nazar Singh Mansahiya and Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj also reached the protest.
