Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has returned to the first spot in the ATP Live rankings after defeating Canada's Felix Auger-Eliasem in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open. Djokovic has defeated Auger-Eliasem 7-5, 7-6(1) on Friday and secured his place at the top of men's tennis for the 370th week. Djokovic has said after winning the quarterfinals that" I thought it was a high-level match. They raised the level of the game and I had to play the good game continuously. I thought I would finish the match very soon, but he might have to give credit for coming back to the match."
Djokovic, who dropped 600 points earlier this week, has moved up to second on the live rankings charts, behind current US Open champion Daniel Medvedev of Russia. By adding 360 points to reach the semi-finals in the Italian capital, Djokovic has now also taken the top spot. On Saturday, Djokovic is set to seek his 1000th Tour-level victory in the semi-final match against Norway's Casper Rudd.
