New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a statement saying that submitting an online nomination on the "National Awards Portal" does not require an Aadhaar Card.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has been authorised by the Central Government to execute Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis for the "National Awards Portal" for the purposes stated in the notification, reads the notification.

The statement stated, "Online Nominations for various awards of different Ministries/ Departments, as well as Online Nominations from individuals, companies, or Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) in various fields/ activities." "Under Secretary (Public), Ministry of Home Affairs shall adhere to the norms given forth by the Central Government with respect to the usage of Aadhaar authentication," it added.

Previously, Aadhaar was made mandatory for award nominations. On the National Awards Portal, the column 'Do you have Aadhaar?' has been disabled.
