New Delhi: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has given clear instructions that a health insurance claim related to coronavirus be disposed of within 60 minutes i.e. within an hour. The IRDAI gave the direction following an order issued by the Delhi High Court in the case on Thursday. In fact, the Delhi High Court had ordered that IRDAI direct insurance companies dispose of cashless claims with immediate effect.
After which IRDAI has asked all insurance companies to inform all concerned that cashless claims should be disposed of within an hour after the covid patient is admitted to the hospital and submits all necessary documents. This will provide relief to all corona patients and also help in addressing the problem of beds in hospitals, as it will be easier to discharge patients and admit new patients. IRDAI said the High Court has directed that cashless claims of coronavirus be sanctioned within 30 to 60 minutes so that patients are not delayed in discharge and beds in hospitals remain empty.
Earlier, the IRDAI had directed that cashless claims be disposed of within two hours. The second wave of corona in the country is proving to be very frightening. Hospitals are very crowded and people are not getting beds. In such a situation, delays in the settlement of insurance claims added to the problem.
