Kabul: Women's rights and freedoms are under constant attack in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. In this sequence, girls in Afghanistan have now been banned from studying in private and public universities. A spokesman for the Taliban government said on Tuesday (December 20) that the order is being implemented with immediate effect across the country. The decision was announced after a meeting held by the Taliban government.
Detailed information regarding this new decree has been given in the letter shared by the spokesperson of the Higher Education Ministry, Ziaullah Hashmi. In this, private and public universities have been asked to implement the ban as soon as possible and inform the ministry after imposing restrictions. Hashmi also shared his letter on Twitter and confirmed its content in a message to The Associated Press. Let us tell you that, after taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban government initially promised to be more liberal regarding women and minority rights. However, it does not appear to be the case. The Taliban have widely implemented their harsh interpretation of Islamic law, the Sharia. Women in Afghanistan have been excluded from most sectors of employment. They are ordered to wear head-to-toe clothing in public. Along with this, women have also been banned from going to the park and gym.
