Non-academic work will no longer be done by teachers, Allahabad HC order issued

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court has passed a major order on non-academic work being carried out by teachers. It says that teachers will not be made to do non-academic work. The Allahabad High Court has issued an order referring to the Right to Education Act, 2009. The court has issued directions to all district magistrates in this regard.

The court has directed the concerned authority, all DMs of the state and district basic education officers to issue orders. Many non-academic works like distribution of mid-day meals, construction of buildings and boundary walls, dyeing, running of school accounts, assistance in making Aadhaar cards, etc. were being carried out so far from teachers, which will no longer be done. The Allahabad High Court in its direction has said that teachers can only be employed during disasters, census, and general elections.

The court ordered that the duty of teachers under the Right to Education Act, 2009 cannot be imposed on non-educational activities. Rule 27 of the Act was mentioned for this. The court has directed strict compliance of Rule 27 and the order passed in Sunita Sharma and other PIL.
