During the Corona period, there has been a shortage of money for ordinary citizens. Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), the organization managing the retirement fund, has launched a multi-location claim settlement facility for fast settlement of various claims. The Labor Ministry said in a statement that under the new system the existing system of geographical jurisdiction for claim settlement has been changed. Under the new system, any claim can be paid anywhere and from any regional office of EPFO.
A statement issued on the matter said that under this new initiative, all types of online applications related to provident fund, pension fund, partial withdrawal and other claims and claim transfer will now be processed from anywhere. This will reduce the time taken for payment of claims, which will give greater convenience to the account holders. As per the report, the Corona crisis has affected the functioning of the 135 regional offices of the EPFO. This has affected the settlement of various types of claims.
The ministry said in its statement that due to the coronavirus epidemic, many offices in Mumbai, Thane, Haryana and Chennai regions are working with limited staff while the number of claims has increased drastically. Due to this, the number of pending claims in these offices has increased considerably due to which their settlement is being delayed. The delay will be reduced by equally distributing the work related to claim disposal. Due to these reasons, the existing system of geographical jurisdiction has been changed, which will be quite convenient. Also, it is known that EPFO gives pension to 65 lakh pensioners through its 135 regional offices. Officials and employees of EPFO have processed the pension amount of May 2020 despite all the difficulties due to Corona crisis so that the pensioners do not have any problem in getting the pension as per the scheduled schedule. Not only this, from April 1, 2020, but EPFO officials are also settling more than 80 thousand claims amounting to Rs 2,70,000 on every working day. The statement said that with the multi-location claim facility, EPFO is ready to provide better facilities for its more than six crore customers.
