New Delhi: The apex court on Thursday heard nine petitions seeking an independent and impartial probe into the Pegasus espionage case. Hearing the case, Chief Justice (CJI) NV Ramana said that if the espionage reports are true, these are serious allegations, but all petitions except the Editors Guild are based on the newspaper. There seems to be no concrete basis for ordering an inquiry. This issue has suddenly heated up again after 2019.

Congress leader and lawyer by profession Kapil Sibal cited a California court trial between WhatsApp and Israeli company NSO as clear that Pegasus spying. But the question is on if it spied in India. On this, CJI NV Ramanna said, "We don't think it has come out in the California court that someone was spied on in India."

Tell you that the apex court will now hear the central government's stand in the Pegasus espionage case. During the hearing, the Supreme Court questioned whether anyone had given a copy of the petition to the central government. Shyam Diwan said that we have already given a copy of the petition to the Attorney-General and Solicitor General. The court then directed the petitioners to make available a copy of the petition to the central government. The next hearing in the case will now be on Tuesday.
