People have previously demanded alternative arrangements. The bridge was built in 1988.

It has been decided to close the Chandrashekhar Azad bridge for a month for repairs. In the meantime, the bridge is set to carry out repair work on oiling, greasing as well as broken pavement. Now, suddenly, there has been opposition to the decision taken by the PWD and Setu Nigam to repair the bridge. Locals say that the decision to repair the bridge is not yet appropriate, the time chosen by the department for it is wrong, as it will add to the woes of the general public, the closure of the bridge will cover a distance of about 40 kilometers and go to Jhunsi and have to move from Shastri bridge.
