Kochi: Train passengers traveling to or from Kerala will now have to pay higher fares on ticket purchases. From 1st July, AC tickets for all trains plying in Kerala and Kerala will be charged a 1 percent Kerala Flood Cess. Similarly, goods carrying goods from or to and from Kerala will be charged 0.25 percent Kerala Flood Cess.

The Union Railway Ministry has issued a circular in this regard. According to the circular of the Ministry of Railways, one percent of the AC tickets for Kerala will not be returned in case of cancellation of Kerala Flood Cess tickets. Kerala Flood Cess (KFC) tickets will be marked separately. The Railway Ministry has also cited an example of how to recover KFC.

According to the Railways, if the basic value of a ticket is thousand rupees, the amount is Rs 1010 by putting a KFC of 1 percent on it. The total ticket will have to be paid to the passenger by levying CGST and SGST.
