New Delhi: The Central government had abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. The state was then divided into two Union Territories. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were two new Union Territories. Now, the Government is also thinking of replacing the Governor in Kashmir. His principal secretary, who is considered to be the closest and most trusted of PM Modi, could be the future Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
Such speculations are going on because Nripendra Mishra decided to quit suddenly on Friday. Mishra is an officer of the 1967 batch of Uttar Pradesh cadres. However, there is speculation that he will be the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in the wake of the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi. Mishra, who hails from Kasili village in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, has been one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the NDA government since pm Modi's past tenure.
The trust of 74-year-old Nripendra Mishra is understandable as PM Modi had changed the DoPT rules to appoint him as his Principal Secretary. This time, when the government was re-constituted, Nripendra was re-appointed as Principal Secretary as well as Cabinet Secretary.
In view of PM Modi's confidence in Mishra's abilities, he is most likely to be made Lieutenant-Governor of Jammu and Kashmir where the government is aiming to bring to normalcy in any way. In fact, the State has been under sanctions since the provisions of Section 370 were abolished. The Centre aims to ensure peaceful conduct of the proposed assembly elections there in any manner later this year. The Government is dealing with the Kashmir issue with great vigilance.
