Crimes against women remain a grave concern, as a shocking incident unfolded in Bihar this week. A brave nurse thwarted a gang-rape attempt at the RBS Health Care Centre in Gangapur on Wednesday night. The nurse successfully escaped her attackers, including a doctor and two of his associates, all of whom were intoxicated.
The horrifying incident occurred when Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the hospital's administrator, along with Sunil Kumar Gupta and Awadhesh Kumar, allegedly locked the facility from the inside and switched off the CCTV cameras before launching the assault. Reports suggest that the trio had been drinking, which is a serious offense in Bihar, a state with strict liquor prohibition laws.
The nurse, who had been employed at the hospital for about a year, was completing her shift when the men began harassing her. The situation escalated quickly as Dr. Kumar attempted to sexually assault her. In a courageous move, the nurse grabbed a surgical blade and inflicted injuries on her attacker, which allowed her to break free. The other two men chased her as she fled the hospital, but she managed to hide in a nearby field.
From her hiding spot, the nurse called the police, who promptly arrived at the scene and arrested the three suspects. Dr. Kumar is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries while in police custody. Investigators have gathered crucial evidence, including blood-stained clothes and several mobile phones, to support the case.
This incident comes in the wake of ongoing outrage over the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata last month. West Bengal's Chief Minister has expressed her deep concern, even stating on Thursday that she is prepared to resign for the sake of the people. She urged junior doctors, who are protesting, to consider the patients and resolve the matter with compassion.
