In a distressing incident in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, a 20-year-old nursing student was allegedly drugged and assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver. The student, who is currently receiving treatment at a state-run hospital, was reportedly targeted while returning from college.

According to preliminary reports, the nursing student took an auto-rickshaw home, where the driver offered her water laced with sedatives. After consuming the tainted drink, the student lost consciousness. The driver then took her to a remote area and sexually assaulted her. Once she regained consciousness, the victim contacted her family and filed a police report. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify and locate the suspect, who has since disappeared.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the nursing community and local residents. Protests erupted across Ratnagiri, with hospital staff blocking roads and disrupting traffic. The authorities have pledged to take strict action against the accused and have urged protestors to remain calm.

This tragic event follows a recent high-profile case in Kolkata, where a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered. The 31-year-old doctor was attacked while resting at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. The autopsy revealed multiple injuries and confirmed death by manual strangulation.

The Kolkata case triggered a nationwide strike by medical practitioners, demanding better safety measures. The strike lasted eleven days before doctors resumed work on August 23, following assurances from the Supreme Court that their concerns would be addressed.
