New York Attorney General Letitia James subpoenaed Donald Trump and his children Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump on Monday (local time) as part of her civil investigation into the former US president's business operations and name-brand firm.

According to The Washington Post's Shayna Jacobs and Jonathan O' Connell, both of former President Donald Trump's adult children worked as executives at his company, the Trump Organization. The subpoenas were revealed in an unsealed court filing on Monday, which also included a timeline for challenges to the requests that the siblings and the former president take depositions and hand over documents.

According to report, Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Donald Trump Jr. submitted a motion to quash the subpoenas or delay them until a parallel criminal investigation is completed later that day.

The Trump family's lawyers argue in the motion that the criminal and civil investigations in New York are linked, and that James is attempting to "circumvent the entire grand jury process" and "nullify [their] constitutional and statutory rights" by demanding testimony on business matters that are also being investigated in the criminal case.

The Trumps have a right not to incriminate themselves to law enforcement as potential targets of the criminal investigation, according to the motion, which also notes that if they were called to the grand jury as witnesses, they would receive automatic immunity from prosecution under New York law, according to Jacobs and Connell.
