Odisha approves rural piped water supply projects worth Rs.1200-Cr

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved rural piped water supply projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore for three districts.

In the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the cabinet has approved the tender amounting to Rs 501.85 crore for execution of mega piped water supply project to facilitate safe drinking water in Dhenkanal district out of Jal Jeevan Mission funding, said state Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Pradip Kumar Amat.

Similar to this, the cabinet has approved the lowest bid of Rs 416.57 crore for the implementation of another drinking water project in the district of Kendrapara.

The third drinking water supply project in the Balasore district will be completed with a Rs 291.62 billion expenditure. The drinking water projects should be finished in less than 24 months, the minister said.

The state government has also given the go-ahead for the installation of roof-top rainwater harvesting systems as part of the Community Harnessing and Harvesting rainwater Artificially from Terrace to Aquifer (CHHATA) programme, which will cost Rs 270 crore over five years.

The Chief Secretary S.C. Mahapatra said, the programme would be executed in 29,500 private buildings and 1,925 public buildings in 52 blocks and 27 urban local bodies in the state from 2022–2023 to 2026–2027.
