BHUBANESWAR: On Saturday, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the incumbent party, was ahead of the nearest challenger, the BJP, with 7,633 votes in the Jharsuguda Assembly bypoll in Odisha.

After three rounds of counting, Dipali Das of the BJD received 17,543 votes, while Tankadhar Tripathy of the BJP received 9,910 votes. Only 521 votes were cast for Tarun Pandey, a candidate for Congress, according to CEO authorities.
In terms of percentage, the BJD received 60.64% of the votes so far counted, followed by the BJP with 34.26% and Congress with just 1.8%.

At Jharsuguda Engineering School, voting began at eight in the morning on Saturday with heavy security in place.

Counting is being conducted on 14 tables. There will be 18 full rounds and one additional partial round as the votes cast in 253 booths are tabulated.

The counting center's perimeter has been secured with three lawyers. They stated that the counting was anticipated to be finished between 4 and 6 p.m.

In the byelection on May 10, 2.21 lakh voters, or 79.21%, exercised their right to vote.

The by-poll was held following the death of sitting MLA and the then Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29, 2023.
