The Indian women's hockey team played their hearts out but the heartbreak came a day after the Indian men's team ended a 41-year-old medal drought by clinching bronze with a 5-4 win over Germany. The history-making women's hockey team's dream for the maiden Olympic medal remained unfulfilled. The Indian women had already created history and surpassed all expectations by entering the semifinals of the Games for the first time and overcame a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2 at halftime.

Now, after the spirited Indian women's hockey team goes down fighting in the Bronze match politicians and Indian lovers of hockey are supporting the team for their valiant efforts. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Friday congratulated the Indian women's hockey team for putting up a brave fight against Great Britain at Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Taking to Twitter, he wrote "Congratulate the Indian Women's Hockey Team for putting up a brave fight against Great Britain at #Tokyo2020. Keep your fighting spirit up and keep inspiring. Wish you all the very best for the future." He further stated that the recent performance of the Indian women's hockey team at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics reflects the spirit of New India. In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the team for their performance as 'blessed with remarkable courage, skill, and resilience.'

Talking about some highlights of the match, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 shall always be remembered as the Indian women's hockey team went down fighting against Great Britain,  who were gold-winners in the 2016 Rio Games, came out on top in the pulsating encounter. The match was held at Oi Hockey Stadium -- North Pitch on Friday. With this loss, the Indian women's team finished fourth at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
