Puri: Three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balbhadra and Mata Subhadra are under construction at Puri in Odisha amidst corona crisis. The popular Rath Yatra will be held on June 24, 2021. And the bathing full moon at the Srimandir complex will take place on 24th June. However, due to corona infection, the event will be organized following the Covid Protocol.

Chariots are constructed every year with special trees like fassi, dhausa, etc. These chariots are constructed by a special carpenter team who have hereditary rights and privileges. When the carpenters reach Puri, the chariot construction work is started as per the prescribed plan.

Three chariots are decorated as per the unique plan. A statue of nine lateral deities is erected around each chariot. Beautiful paintings of different deities are made on each chariot using extremely beautiful paintings. There are one charioteer and four horses on all the three chariots. After decorating the three chariots beautifully, they are placed on a large stick in front of the eastern gate of Jagannath temple, also known as Singhdwara. It takes about two months for the carpenter to construct chariots for the Rath Yatra. The temple officials share the earnings of the Rath Yatra among the carpenters whose families have been constructing these chariots for generations.
