District Magistrate announces 'Bring the ghost, get 50 thousand reward'

An Odisha District Magistrate has recently started an initiative to revive practices related to witchcraft and superstition and spread awareness among the people. To do this, he said, "The person who will prove the existence of ghosts will be given a reward of 50 thousand rupees." Its initiative was started by Ganjam District Collector Vijay Amrit Kulange and he said that according to my information, ghosts have no existence. If a person proves the existence of ghosts or justifies superstitions, he will be given a reward of 50 thousand rupees from my side.

At the same time, this step has been taken by the District Magistrate because two incidents of witchcraft were reported in Ganjam district. In this case, it has been told that a few weeks ago, the villagers in Gopapur broke the teeth of six people on suspicion of witchcraft and in Jagannath Prada people were forced to eat waste material. At the same time, the police arrested 35 in one case and 10 people in the other case. Along with this, incidents of boycotting people were also suspected by some people on suspicion of witchcraft. Recently, the District Magistrate Kulange said that, "People should understand that no one gets sick from witchcraft." People believe that their relatives get sick due to witchcraft.

In this situation, instead of taking the sick person to the doctor, they take him to the 'Baba'. My advice to people is to take the sick person to the hospital instead of convicting someone. "In this case, the District Magistrate further said," People bring magic-related complaints to the weekly public hearings held every week. Even after a lot of awareness campaigns from our side, people in rural areas are still trapped in the web of superstition.
