Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has written letter to the Central government regarding the short supply of fertilizers to Odisha against the monthly requirements during the ensuing Kharif-2022.

The alleged shortage of fertilizer at peak of current Kharif season has led to a tug-of-war between Centre and Odisha.
Bhagwanth Khuba, the Deputy Minister in the Union Ministry, denied any deficit after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sent a letter to Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizer, underlining the critical scarcity of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash (MOP) in Odisha.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the Department of Fertilizers for supplying urea to Odisha as needed through the end of July. However, there is a serious shortage in the supply of DAP and MOP to the State relative to the demand, the CM of Odisha noted in his letter.

"As of July 31, the entire availability of DAP for the current kharif season has been 69% versus the requirement, with a shortfall of 46,877 metric tonnes. Since there has been a good run of monsoon following a dry spell, which has caused the agricultural activity to go into full swing, there is a great need for these fertilisers, he said.

"Crop output in the State decreased last year as a result of natural disasters including Yaas, Jawad, and Gulab. With a healthy harvest and a monsoon that will be close to normal, it is expected that the loss would be made up,  Patnaik remarked.
