Bhuvneshwar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced in the Odisha Assembly that the State Government has ordered a significant crackdown on Bangladeshi infiltrators residing in various districts, including Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar, and Puri. District Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been instructed to identify and trace these individuals to address concerns related to illegal infiltration.

In response to a query by MLA Bhaskar Madhei regarding plans to identify infiltrators in Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar, and Puri, Chief Minister Majhi confirmed that district authorities are prioritizing the identification process in these areas. Teams will be established at the block, tehsil, and police station levels to conduct this exercise thoroughly and systematically. Chief Minister Majhi also provided data on illegal Bangladeshi residents in Odisha as of 2021. Approximately 3,740 Bangladeshi nationals were reported residing illegally in various districts. Kendrapada had the highest number with 1,649 individuals, followed by Malkangiri with 655, Bhadrak with 199, Jagatsinghpur with 111, and Navrangpur with 106. Additionally, 17 infiltrators were found in Bhubaneswar, and 2 in Bargarh.

To combat infiltration, 18 marine police stations have been established to patrol the maritime border and monitor potential infiltrators. These stations are equipped with night vision devices, digital cameras, LED searchlights, and other essential technical equipment. The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to prevent infiltration via waterways and West Bengal, including collaborations with district Superintendents of Police, state and central intelligence agencies, and naval officers. The State intelligence agency is actively gathering information on intruders through regular communication with coastal fishermen and trawler associations.

Furthermore, the Union Government has supplied 15 fast interceptor boats in the initial phase. Of these, ten boats have a 12-tonne capacity, while the remaining five have a 5-tonne capacity, enhancing the state's capabilities to manage and prevent illegal entry.
