BHUBANESWAR: The deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, has been extended by the Odisha government. The action was conducted in compliance with an Orissa High Court directive.
The State Transport Authority (STA) revised the dates on Friday, shortly before the deadline for fixing the HSRP for cars with registration numbers ending in 1, 2, 3, and 4.
According to the updated timelines, the deadline for vehicles with an Odisha registration mark and a registration number that ends in 1, 2, 3, or 4 is October 31, while the deadline for those with a registration number that ends in 5 or 6 is November 30.
Similarly, owners of vehicles with Odisha registration marks and registration numbers that end in 7 or 8 must affix the HSRP by December 31. Owners of vehicles with registration numbers that end in 9 or 0 must do so by January 31, 2023.
When considering a petition, the High Court requested that the state government extend the deadline by one month because the necessary infrastructures for fixing the HSRP within the allotted period were not readily available.
Affixation of the HSRP is now required for all classes of old vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, according to the Odisha transport department, starting on June 1, 2022.
Notably, all new vehicles registered on or after April 1, 2019, must comply with the HSRP.
