Odisha : According to sources, the Odisha government issued a mandatory retirement order to a top police officer who was recently convicted and sentenced to prison on corruption charges. The vigilance agency recently detained the corrupt officer, assistant superintendent of police (communication) Trinath Mishra, for allegedly acquiring assets worth Rs nine crore that were disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to officials, his assets included a fleet of luxury automobiles and motorcycles valued over Rs one crore. Mishra could not be reached for comment because he was in prison. According to CMO sources, the government took the measure as part of its zero-tolerance stance for corruption. Sleuths from the Vigilance Department raided 11 locations in the Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, and Nabarangpur districts where Mishra owned property.

Since 2019, the number of officials who have been fired or forced to retire has risen to 152. On February 16, the Odisha government forced five officials suspected of corruption and inefficiency to retire.
