According to Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Secretary to the Chief Minister (5T) V. K. Pandyan, and Principal Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Hemant Sharma, a high-level delegation comprised of them visited Sambalpur on Thursday on the orders of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The state government will transform the university into a centre of excellence in the field of technology education, and more than Rs. 1000 crore will be spent for its transformation. "VSSUT is one of the leading Engineering Colleges of the state and has a great reputation across the country," Mohapatra said.

Notably, in 2009, the University College of Engineering (UCE), Burla, received a VSSUT upgrading from the state government. In 1956, the UCE was founded at the base of the Hirakud Dam. It was operating as an affiliate institution of Bhubaneswar's Utkal University.

The preliminary objective of setting up the engineering college was to produce good quality engineers for Hirakud dam. The Chief Secretary and the 5T Secretary also went to the Goddess Samalei Temple to assess the development initiatives that are being carried out there.
