Bhubaneswar:The Odisha government is planning large-scale jackfruit production in the state, with a focus on raising public knowledge about the fruit's high nutritional value.

While presiding over a conference on the production of nutritious fruits here recently, Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra instructed officials to promote and popularise jackfruit farming in the state.

The jackfruit, which grows wild throughout Odisha, is a good source of vitamin C, potassium, dietary fibre, and a few other vitamins and minerals. A cup of raw, sliced jackfruit has 157 calories and 2.84 grammes of protein, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Vitamin A is abundant in carotenoids, the chemicals that give jackfruit its yellow colour. Carotenoids, like all antioxidants, protect cells from harm and help your body function properly. They may aid in the prevention of diseases such as cancer and heart disease, as well as vision disorders such as cataracts and macular degeneration.
