Bhubaneswar: A 30-year-old woman, who was raped multiple times in Odisha's Ganjam district, tried to commit suicide in court premises on Friday, pleading for justice but was rescued by an alert officer. The incident took place in the court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) in Berhampur.

Police have informed that as soon as the woman poured kerosene oil on herself, constable Rashmi Ranjan Das, who was on security duty, saved her by stopping her from doing so. The woman was briefly detained at BN Pur police station and released after questioning. In fact, the married woman has alleged that she was raped for the first time in October last year. After this, the accused was arrested. However, after being released on bail, the accused, along with a friend, raped the victim again on November 14 this year.

The accused was arrested again, but the woman was demanding the arrest of his friend and his mother, who was guarding the house when they were raping her. The woman's husband lives and works in Hyderabad, she said. He used to send money to his wife through the accused man's bank account.
