BHUBANESHWAR: The dismissed Cop who allegedly shot dead Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das last month will undergo narco-analysis and polygraph tests as part of the investigation, officials said.

The accused, Gopal Das, was kept in police custody till February 13 by an Odisha court in the Jharsuguda district.
According to Mr. Gopal Das' attorney Harishankar Agarwal, the Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Jharsuguda has authorised the Crime Branch (CB) investigating the matter to administer narco-analysis and polygraph tests on the fired police officer.

In a narco-analysis test, a substance is intravenously administered to the patient to put them into a stage of anaesthesia where they are less restrained and more likely to say things they wouldn't normally say while conscious.
When taking a polygraph test, the person is asked a series of questions while having their respiration, blood pressure, sweating, and heart rate monitored to determine whether or not they are lying. The crime branch and the defendant have already departed for Kolkata, from where they will take a flight to Gandhinagar.

Earlier, Gopal Das underwent several other tests conducted by a team at Central Forensic Science Laboratory, New Delhi.

One of the tests was to determine his mental state because the accused's wife claimed that her husband had bipolar disorder, which causes dramatic mood swings from manic highs to depressive lows.

S.K. Bansal, the director general of police for Odisha, and Justice J.P. Das, the retired judge from the High Court who is overseeing the probe, went to the Brajrajnagar neighbourhood of Gandhi Chowk where Gopal Das shot the minister for the first time.

It will take some more time to complete the probe, Said  Mr.Bansal. Under Justice JP Das' direction, the criminal branch has been looking into the case. On February 7, the investigation team reconstructed the crime scene with the suspect present.

"The investigation is on track," said Justice Das. The results of the psychological tests are awaited. On January 29,  Gopal Das fired two rounds from his service revolver, and one bullet pierced the Minister's chest. He died in a hospital in Bhubaneswar the same day.
