Bhubaneshwar:  Odisha government has asked health officials to be on high alert after the country reported its fourth incidence of monkeypox, including one in Delhi and three in Kerala.

Dr. Niranjan Mishra, Director of Public Health in Odisha, said on Wednesday that advisories have been sent to all districts to keep an eye on people with a travel history to high-risk countries and be vigilant.
"The Indian government has approved 15 facilities for monkeypox testing. We have requested the ICMR-RMRC in Bhubaneswar to help us test these samples; they would send them to the nearest lab. We have requested a couple medical schools to make some beds available "He said.

The Central Government requested Expressions of Interest (EOI) in developing a vaccine against the monkeypox virus days after cases were reported in regions of India. The government issued EOI for the development of a monkeypox vaccine and diagnostic kits through a public-private collaboration.
The Centre has solicited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from experienced vaccine producers and in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) kit manufacturers for combined collaboration in developing a vaccine candidate against monkeypox and diagnostic kits for this infection.

Although there is no specific vaccine for monkeypox, smallpox immunizations are up to 85 percent effective against the disease.

People have been cautioned to be cautious because it spreads by close contact with respiratory secretions, skin lesions, body fluids, droplets, and infected things such as clothing.
