Puri: All temples in the country were closed due to corona infection. Now, on Wednesday, seeing the low number of cases in the country, the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration decided to reopen the 12th-century temple in Puri. The SJTA will hold a meeting today where a decision in this regard is expected. In fact, in view of the low cases of corona in the state, the Odisha government has allowed the reopening of religious institutions with the observance of corona rules from August 1.
On the other hand, the chief administrator of the SJTA, Krishna Kumar, has convened a virtual meeting to discuss the issue of opening the 12th-century temple. The meeting will be attended by Magistrate-cum-Collector, Superintendent of Police, Chief District Medical Officer, and Members of Temple Coordination Committee of Puri. As a result of the meeting, all the officers will take stock of the situation in Corona in the state and decide when to open the Jagannath temple for devotees.
The unlock guidelines issued by the State Government in August clearly state that it may be decided to reopen the temples under its management for public viewing in consultation with SJTA, Puri, and Sri Lingaraj temple administration, Bhubaneswar concerned stakeholders, and following corona rules. However, the guideline also mentions that no prasad will be offered by the devotees who come to visit.
