Kyiv: According to the regional governor, a helicopter crashed into a nursery and a residential building in the Ukrainian town of Brovary near Kyiv on Wednesday morning, and casualties were confirmed.

According to a police spokesperson, at least five people were injured and a number of people were killed. Reuters could not immediately reach her for comment by phone.

"At the time of the tragedy, there were children and... staff in the nursery. Everyone has been rescued. "There have been casualties," Kyiv region governor Oleksiy Kuleba wrote on the messaging app Telegram.

People could be heard screaming in videos shared on social media of a burning building. Reuters was unable to confirm the footage immediately.
It was unclear what caused the helicopter to crash at the time.

Russia, whose troops invaded Ukraine last February, made no immediate comment, and Ukrainian officials made no mention of any Russian attack in the area at the time.

"We are gathering information about casualties and circumstances," Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of Ukraine's presidential office, wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
