Riyadh: In order to discuss various aspects of the most recent Qur'anic burning incident in Sweden, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha spoke by phone with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.

The OIC's response was also discussed by the two sides. Saudi Arabia led the organization's executive committee to call an emergency meeting, and Taha gave the prime minister a report on the proceedings.

Sharif informed the OIC leader of the adoption of a resolution earlier on Friday by Pakistan's two houses of parliament, "demanding the Swedish government to take action against the perpetrator of such a reprehensible act that has never been justifiable under the pretext of freedom of speech," according to a statement from the Riyadh-based OIC.

In response to the incident in Sweden late last month when an Iraqi immigrant burned a copy of the Qur'an outside a mosque in Stockholm, which sparked widespread condemnation, thousands of Muslims across Pakistan demonstrated nationwide on Friday.
