NEW DELHI: The Indian Men's Hockey team has won the Olympic Test match against New Zealand in a spectacular display. The team also took revenge on the defeat in the round-robin stage. The team defeated New Zealand 5-0 in the final. He is now eyeing the Olympic qualifiers. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh (seventh minute) scored the first goal while Shamsher Singh (18th), Neelkanth Sharma (22nd), Gursahibjit Singh (26th) and Mandeep Singh (27th) scored the remaining goals. India had defeated New Zealand 1-2 in the round-robin stage.
Both India and New Zealand won the match. India got a penalty corner in the seventh minute, but captain Harmanpreet scored the second penalty corner in the same minute to give the team the lead. The Indian team continued to control the ball and maintained a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Shamsher scored his second goal for India in the 18th minute.
The New Zealand team managed to enter the circle twice in the second quarter, while India scored three more goals. Neelkanth scored the third goal in the 22nd minute. Gursahibjit Singh and Mandeep then scored consecutive goals. After scoring a goal in the first two quarters, none of the teams in the third and fourth quarters scored the goal. The last two quarters were named defenders. Though New Zealand made some more efforts in the fourth quarter, the Indian defenders did not allow New Zealand to capitalize on a strong performance.
