The javelin arena at the Paris Olympics 2024 is buzzing with excitement as the fierce rivalry between India and Pakistan takes center stage. On Tuesday, fans will witness a thrilling contest between India's Neeraj Chopra and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem in the qualification event.
Kishore Jena, one of India's top javelin throwers, recently spoke about the upcoming showdown. Despite the intense competition, Jena emphasized the friendly nature of the event. "It's not about rivalry. At the Olympics, athletes from various countries come together. We meet and interact with each other in a friendly manner," Jena explained.
Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and world champion, is under the spotlight as he aims to defend his gold medal. He comes into the competition with a season-best throw of 88.36 meters, achieved before the Paris Games.
At 26, Neeraj is focused on maintaining his top position and delivering another stellar performance. Meanwhile, Jena will compete in Group A of the men's javelin throw event, while Neeraj and Arshad will be in Group B. To advance to the final, athletes must surpass the qualifying mark of 84.00 meters.
Jena is eagerly preparing for his Olympic debut and is determined to give his best. "Preparation is excellent, and we’re receiving tremendous support. I’m fully committed to delivering a strong performance. It’s my first Olympics, and I’m giving it my all," Jena stated.
Jena also expressed his support for Neeraj Chopra, acknowledging his significant impact on Indian athletics. "Neeraj bhai has elevated Indian athletics. We all have high hopes for him, and it’s great to have him with us. We wish him the very best," Jena added.
