New Delhi: In an immense mortification for the Congress party, its supporter Jignesh Mevani has been seen in video passing judgment on Dalit icons.

Times Now has aired the video that shows Mevani, who is himself a Dalit head of Gujarat, condemning Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar or Baba Saheb.

Dr. Ambedkar is observed as the father of the Indian Constitution and is credited with the primary movement for Dalits' rights and in opposition to their social discrimination.

The video that exposed mask from newly-elected Mevani‘s face was recorded in August 2017, said sources.

The thrilling video shows MP Mevani giving a speech in which he raises questions and condemns the principles of Dalit icon Dr Ambedkar.

“The Dalit movement needs to understand that the Left wants to evolve a society where there is no caste, creed and exploitation of any section; then they are your natural ally. And in this particular context, if Dr Ambedkar had some different view, so from that view I might actually have a very different point of view. If what Lenin or Karl Marx have said is not written in stone, then what Dr Ambedkar or Ramasamy Periyar have said is also not written in stone. This has been taught to us by Baba Saheb only.

Acted in response to the speech, Prakash Ambedkar, grandson of Dr Ambedkar and leader of the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh political party, criticized Mevani and asserted, “Who is Jignesh?”

“He shouldn't have insulted Dalit icons,” Prakashsaid with annoyence.

BJP representative Nalin Kohli also smacked at Mevani and said, “Their idea is anarchist idea, of India's dismemberment.”

The newly-elected MLA Jignesh Mevani, from Gujarat, was present in the “Elgar Parishad”, an event held to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the battle of Bhima-Koregaon, at Shaniwar Wada in the city on December 31.
