BERLIN:  The number of Omicron variant infections in Germany surged by 2,686, or over 26%, in just one day, to 13,129, according to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for Infectious Diseases. According to the RKI, more over 6,060 laboratory-confirmed Omicron cases were detected in Germany between the ages of 15 and 34, and roughly 4,320 cases were identified between the ages of 35 and 59. The country's ministry presidents will convene again on January 7th of the following year to assess the present Covid-19 measures.

According to official estimates, about a year after Germany's Covid-19 vaccination programme began, 71% of citizens had been properly vaccinated as of Tuesday."It is now very vital to acquire the full vaccine protection due to the proliferation of the Omicron variant," the country's Ministry of Health wrote on Twitter, emphasising that booster doses with an mRNA vaccine can lead to significantly better immune protection.

Svenja Schulze, the Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, also stated on Wednesday that the government intends to provide at least 75 million Covid-19 vaccine pills to poorer countries next year without halting its own immunisation campaign.
