New Delhi: New Omicron variants attributed to the rapid rise in new coronavirus cases across the country may have changed shape in India as well. BA.1 Variant, another form of Omicron, has now started replacing Delta. Now, this is being seen in Maharashtra and some other States.

At present, scientists are engaged in examining genomes of positive clinical samples. It is only after this study that some more information will be available. Scientists say that more than Omicron BA.1 variants are currently responsible for the rapidly increasing number of cases across the country. However, it is a matter of relief that people suffering from this variant have only mild symptoms and people are rarely required to be admitted to hospitals.

Three new variants belonging to the same family of Omicron variants BA.1, BA.2 and BA.3 have emerged. Senior scientists at the Department of Biotechnology have informed that 'We have found the presence of BA.1 variants in some clinical samples. This Omicron belongs to the variant family. They belong to the same family. Therefore, the victims are said to be Omicron variants.'
