Court reprimands Telangana government for rising dengue cases

HYDERABAD: On the efforts made by the Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and the State to ensure that seasonal diseases do not spread during the rainy season, read out a report filed by Public Health and Family Welfare, headed by Acting Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar. A division bench of the Wali High Court felt that the report was unclear as they did not talk of any concrete action plan to tackle the menace of dengue and swine flu. In a petition filed in the court, the petitioner said that there is every possibility of increase in dengue cases during the rainy season and prayed the court to direct the state government to take all necessary steps to reduce the dengue disease.

The court directed Advocate General BS Prasad, Amicus Curiae Niranjan Reddy and petitioner's counsel K Pawan Kumar to submit the suggestions, which may be counted in the order to be passed by the court on September 29. The petitioner's counsel informed, this month, 3,200 dengue cases were registered in the state and 2,500 last month.

Meanwhile, the Advocate General informed the bench that the State is taking all measures to reduce the spread of dengue and other seasonal diseases. Acting CJ MS Ramachandra Rao, after hearing the arguments of Advocate General, Amicus Curiae Niranjan Reddy and the petitioner's counsel The latter said, "I would like the state, the petitioner's counsel and the amicus to give a concrete action plan so that it can be placed in court. The officials should stop making generic statements like fogging and drone surveys, instead the bureaucrats should come up with a concrete action plan." So that the menace of dengue can be reduced. The state should work seriously to eradicate dengue from the state." The court adjourned that matter till September 29.
