New Delhi: On 14 January 2013, the United Nations General Assembly officially approved UNESCO’s World Radio Day, announcing 13 February, the day when United Nations Radio was established in 1946.

This year World Radio Day 2018 has a theme on the interplay between radio and sports, and its impacts on bridging divides, gender equality and diversity.

PM Modi took his twitor handle to extend his greetings and said, “On #WorldRadioDay, I convey my greetings to all those associated with the world of radio, which includes those working in the industry and the listeners. May this medium always remain a focal point of learning, discovering, entertaining and growing together,” PM tweeted.

In another tweet, PM urges to hear him through Mann Ki Baat and said “The radio brings us closer and I am continuously experiencing this through #MannKiBaat. Here is where you can hear all the episodes. https://www.narendramodi.in/mann-ki-baat  #WorldRadioDay,” PM tweeted.

Meanwhile, Smriti Z Irani Union Cabinet Minister of Textiles and Information & Broadcasting also extended her greetings to mark the day and said “Greetings on World Radio Day. One of the most powerful mode of communication, Radio has touched our lives in more ways than one. Whether it be listening to Hon PM’s Mann ki Baat or songs on the go - Radio brings colours of life to the fore through the power of voice/sound,” She tweeted.
