Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala's worst flood for more than a century claimed 324 lives, Shri Ayyappa Temple in Anachal decided to not celebrate and keep festivities in a simple way. Sukumaran Nair, secretary of the temple, said, 'there are no celebrations this year and we haven't decorated the temple as the people are suffering because of floods'

Meanwhile, the president Kovind took the micro-blogging website Twitter and greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Onam as saying, “Good wishes to fellow citizens, particularly to our brothers and sisters in Kerala, on Onam.  May this festival marks a new beginning for all those in Kerala recovering in the aftermath of the floods, and gradually beginning to rebuild their lives, President Kovind tweeted.

Worth mention here Kerala's chief minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, stated that more than 200,000 people had now been displaced by hammering rain that devastated the whole state.

Significantly, the festival of Onam will not be celebrated this year due to heavy floods in Kerala. You know that a huge number of births in Kerala's biggest hundred have been lost. Many people are coming forward to help people of Kerala. Bollywood artists are also participating in this and financially helped affected people like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Anupam Kher.
